Sammie Rhoades has served as Hope House’s CEO since 1993. Previous to coming to Findlay and Hope House, Sammie was an executive director in the YWCA system for twelve years. Sammie has worked to develop programs through a variety of funding opportunities to meet the needs of a growing and changing homeless population in Findlay/Hancock County. Currently she is president of the Coalition on Homelessness and Housing in Ohio (COHHIO) and is a member of the Governor’s Interagency Council on Homelessness and Affordable Housing in Ohio.

Jennifer Swartzlander, LISW, Assistant Director

Jennifer Swartzlander joined Hope House in 1992 as the Hope House Shelter Case Manager. From 1992 to 2001, she served as Case Manager, Child Advocate and eventually the Program Director. She provided case management supervision part-time in 2001 and 2002. After taking some time off to raise her family, she returned to Hope House as Program Director in 2007. In 2008, she was promoted to Assistant Director. Jennifer received a Master’s degree in Social Work from The Ohio State University. Jennifer has a great passion for working with housing and homeless issues which started in college while working at the Aurora House in Toledo, Ohio.

Barb Faber, Independence Program Case Manager

Barb Faber joined Hope House Housing Office in 2002 as an Americorps Member with the Coalition on Homelessness and Housing in Ohio. Barb was hired in 2003 as the Hope House Housing Assistant. She served as the Housing Manager of the Hope House Housing Office in 2004. Since late 2004, Barb became the Independence Case Manager. Before joining Hope House, Barb was an Americorps Member for WSOS Community Action Commission in Tiffin Ohio. Barb has served on the Mental Health and Recovery Service Board in Seneca County. Barb also has been a volunteer for the Black Swamp Raptor Rehab Center in Hancock County since 1989 serving on the board and as secretary.

Christy Nusser, Housing Assistant

Christy started at Hope House in 2003 as the Housing Assistant. Her duties include assessing and assisting with homeless and low income family’s needs. She assists clients in finding affordable housing and reconciling disputes with the landlords. Christy maintains ands updates a Landlord/Apartment list for Hancock County.

Nicole Bowen, Shelter Case Manager

Nicole is the newest member of the Hope House staff. She joined Hope House in 2008 and has enjoyed her position as a case manager. Her role as case manager includes developing case plans with residents, completing intakes and interviews, planning living skills meetings, and addressing any situations that may arise. Prior to joining Hope House Nicole was a Youth Advisor at a Juvenile Corrections Facility and a Case Manager at a Community Mental Health Center. Nicole received a Master’s of Science in Criminal Justice from Tiffin University in 2007.

Shirley Morgan,

Shirley Morgan joined Hope House in 2000. Previously Shirley worked for Wm.Wrigley Jr. Co. with her home office being in Chicago. After traveling for many years, she decided a home base in Findlay would be nice. Shirley worked as a night monitor for several months when a full-time position became available. She decided Hope House would be a great change to her career. Working with residents of the shelter and volunteers has been very rewarding and a great learning experience.

Barb became interested in Hope House as a volunteer, later joining as an evening monitor. In 2005, Barb became the Hope House Receptionist.  Her duties include office responsibilities, resident assistance and enforcement of house policies.  She assists program, administrative staff and the Hope House Fundraising Committee.
